10 week course: Making your mark - Intermediate Ceramics - Camden Art Centre

The course will look at the craft of ceramics in more detail and will help you to develop your own specific interest within this artform.

Making your mark: Ceramics for Intermediates is a 10 week course led by Alice Foxen. This course is for those already with some experience of working with ceramics who are looking to develop their skills further.

Over ten weeks we will work through short projects to refine and build upon your knowledge and techniques in clay. As your skills progress and you begin to develop your own style of making, we will take time to work on personal projects.

Students will be supported on personal projects with individual tutorials to assist them to realize their ideas technically.

This course will cover:

  • Time and support to work on personal projects
  • Use of hand building techniques
  • Ergonomic throwing
  • Experimental textual slip
  • Maiolica painting
  • Layering glazes and glaze theory

All materials costs are included. Size restrictions apply.
Please note not all objects made will be fired before Christmas.

The Artist Additional Information

The Artist

Alice Foxen is an artist working in clay and other materials. Her work is inspired by seeing the beauty in the stuff other people don’t notice. Growing up in a city has driven a lifelong search for discarded objects and materials found in public space.

Her love for making has taken her to residencies at the International Ceramic Research Centre in Denmark and The Vermont Studio Centre in the USA. Her work has been shown at the British Ceramics Biennale and internationally in group exhibitions.

This summer she graduated with an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art. While studying at the RCA, Alice’s material journey has developed through playful material research. She continues this journey from her studio in Bermondsey.
