Introduction to Maiolica is a two-day ceramics course led by ceramic artist Yung Cheuk Chung.
Maiolica is the name given to painted earthenware made using a decoration technique on white glaze, used as a method of storytelling through ceramics. Maiolica was first developed by the Italian potters of the Renaissance period.
During this course, students will create their own Maiolica inspired decorative earthenware pieces. Day 1 will focus on making an earthenware piece using press-moulding techniques ready for bisque firing. Day 2 and will focus on glazing fired work, using tin-glaze and surface decoration in colour using oxides.
This course will cover:
- Press moulding with clay
- Maiolica decorative techniques using glaze and oxides
Artwork and objects made during this course will be fired at the Camden Art Centre kiln, and can be taken home by students.
This course is suitable for those with little to no experience of working with ceramics. All materials costs are included. Size restrictions apply.
