2016 - 2017
Ideas for Experiments is a cross-curricular arts project led in partnership with local primary schools based in the Camden borough. The project examines the physical world by testing the properties and possibilities of materials, while using our exhibition programme as a catalyst for generating discussion around process, ideas and art.
Working in close dialogue with teachers the project enables meaningful engagement with the curriculum and individual progression. We provide an inclusive setting for pupils with language and learning needs, with a focus on collaboration, working as a team and practical hands-on making.
Each primary school is paired with an artist and regular sessions take place in the school classrooms and at Camden Arts Centre throughout a full academic year. This year artists Judith Brocklehurst and Kate Squires are working with pupils at Edith Neville Primary School and Rhyl Primary School.
“The level that the children engage with the CAC project has been fantastic. This has amounted a general buzz of excitement, interest and learning which far outweighed my expectations. This has been all inclusive and a joy to watch and be part of.”
– Teacher, Rhyl Primary School
“This is the best day of my life because I am at Camden Arts Centre. Before Camden Arts Centre I didn’t like art. Now I love art.”
– Pupil, Edith Neville Primary School
Ideas for Experiments has been running since 2010 and is currently supported by John Lyon’s Charity and The Garcia Family Foundation (UK) Ltd.
