Insights - Camden Art Centre

Insights offered young people (aged 17+) the chance to explore art school in more depth while they consider applying to Foundation or Degree courses in the Arts.

The project brought together expertise from Camden Art Centre and Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design to support young people in making informed decisions about their creative futures. The focus was on building a high quality portfolio with guidance from artists, university tutors and students.

We offered free portfolio viewing sessions, practical workshops, university tours and contact with professional artists and academics. Working with us, participants were able to produce a new body of work, experience various arts disciplines and techniques, receive advice on their choices and feel more confident about how to structure an effective portfolio.

The project was free to attend, but booking was required. Limited spaces.

Winter School
The Insights Winter School was an opportunity for students to gain experience in building and shaping a portfolio. Hosted both at Central Saint Martins School of Arts & Design and at Camden Art Centre, workshops included practical activities using facilities at the two venues, and an opportunity for discussion around how to structure a portfolio. All workshops were led by professional artists and tutors and supported by undergraduate students. Each workshop focused on a different specialism, enabling those attending to gain a good insight into a range of disciplines, learn new skills and create new work to include in their portfolio.

Insights Winter School Part 2: Fashion

Saturday 29 November, 10.30am – 4.00pm
Central Saint Martins, Kings Cross
Aimed at young people thinking about a future in the arts, this fashion focused day gave young people (aged 17+) the opportunity to discuss what they might expect from a university course. Students had the opportunity to learn new techniques, meet Central Saint Martins tutors, create new work for their portfolio and have a fun and unique experience.

The second session of the Winter School gave students the opportunity to experience a fashion based workshop in either 3D construction on the body or Experimental surface design.

Lasting a full day these workshops were led by Helmert Robbertsen (Associate Lecturer in Jewellery, Footwear & Fashion Accessories at CSM) and Patricia Williams (Associate Lecturer, Foundation CSM). Students got a taster in the technique they chose and also had a special chance to tour the courses facilities at Central Saint Martins.

Lunch was provided.
