Youth Collective 2016 - 2017 - Camden Art Centre

2016 - 2017

Our Youth Collective, for young people aged 15 – 25 years, meets regularly to create, discuss, experience and encounter the visual arts, offering opportunities to be involved behind the scenes at Camden Arts Centre to further career development, skills and knowledge.

Young people involved have the opportunity to gain Arts Award Gold, meet artists, shadow staff, programme events for young audiences and develop their own art practice.

We meet Saturdays, 2.30 – 5.00pm, there is no need to book and you can come to as many sessions you are able to.

This year we will be working with artists Lucy Joyce and Shepherd Manyika.

“I want to do something creative in the art world. Coming here has helped understand this better. And it’s fun. I always enjoy working here. There are no limitations and everyone’s really nice.”
– Member of CAC Youth Collective

Watch a short film from the Heritage Lottery Fund Changing Lives series with Youth Collective member Channah Smith on how the project inspired her to develop her own artistic practice.

Our Youth Collective, for young people aged 15 – 25 years, meets regularly to create, discuss, experience and encounter the visual arts, offering opportunities to be involved behind the scenes at Camden Arts Centre to further career development, skills and knowledge.

In the autumn term of Youth Collective, the group looked at the possibilities for making and experiencing art and experimented with photography, text, sound and the body as an instrument. Led by artists Shepherd Manyika and Lucy Joyce, the group discussed what makes an image powerful, and how and whether art can reflect the current times.

Activities included an alternative tour of Matt Mullican and Bonnie Camplin’s exhibitions with performance, experimental mark making by creating our own tools and devices and collaborative installations.
