This exhibition celebrated the voices, artwork and experiences of young people involved in our Special Educational Needs School Programme.

This collaboration worked with young people and teachers from local Special Education Needs schools alongside artists and our partner ActionSpace. Due to 2021’s workshops taking place during the global pandemic project artists Evan Bond, Lydia CS and Natalie Zervou-Kerruish worked with students from Oaklodge School in Barnet and Shaftsbury High School in Harrow to lead online sessions, zooming into the classrooms and working with teachers to deliver creative sessions.

Activities included collective dream memories, inventing new letters and flag-making for reimagined worlds. Taking this as inspiration, the exhibition presented a symbolic landscape where visitors are invited to move, listen, feel, wave and push body-parts through the work in the space.

About SEN Schools

Camden Art Centre’s Special Educational Needs Schools Programme works in collaboration with young people, teachers and artists.

The project addresses the lack of access for people with learning disabilities to creative experiences and careers in the visual arts. It aims to increase creative opportunities for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and to encourage confidence and independence through collaborative activities that champion all forms of communication and self-expression.

It is our vision, along with the support of ActionSpace as a partner, to improve access and opportunities to the arts for artists and young people with learning disabilities, and to increase participation, education and training provision.
