Francis Upritchard - Camden Art Centre

With her acute wit and sensibility, the sculptures and drawings of Francis Upritchard introduce an invented yet strangely credible world of fake ethnic funeral objects and ritual handicrafts.

German flea market vases become ancient urns. Shrunken monkey heads are constructed from secondhand fur coats and delicate plastic sculptures are designed to fit into the coffin-like recesses of 19th century instrument cases.

Shortlisted for the 2003 Becks Futures Prize, Upritchard worked as the first resident artist in the newly refurbished building.
