Mike Nelson - Camden Art Centre

Artist Residency

During Mike Nelson’s residency at Camden Art Centre, Gallery 3 gradually metamorphosed with collected debris from the streets and markets. Nelson transformed the detritus into objects and tableaux depicting connections between the items and their makers, creating a personal fictional context within the gallery space.

Nelson has made site-specific installations for the Academia de Arta, Bucharest, Matt’s and Hales galleries in London and Berwick Gymnasium Gallery, Berwick-upon-Tweed. This project was part of Cutting the Wires, a series of commissions, residencies and presentations by artists in whose work the idea of a narrative or fiction emerges. The series and selection of artists arose through conversations with curator Paul Hedge.
