Open Studio: Andrew Omoding

Andrew Omoding is a Ugandan born, London based artist who makes largely autobiographical works through an intuitive process that evolves around Omoding’s stories. His mixed media sculptures, books and costumes are made using found materials that he weaves, wraps, and sews using systematic layering techniques, often adding textiles, patterns and textures.

Throughout his residency Omoding created a new series of sculptures and immersive installations that considered the ritual of home and relationships. The artist’s colourful, vibrant and energetic sculptures transformed the studio into a domestic space, evocative of his associations of home and imbued with his generosity.

During Omoding’s Open Studio, audiences were invited to enter into the installation and interact with the works, from the sound sculptures to the ceremonial costumes.

Omoding received a Developing your Creative Practice Award from Arts Council England to support his residency alongside ongoing support from ActionSpace and Camden Arts Centre.
