Recipe for a table - Camden Art Centre

This exhibition celebrates the experiences, artwork and voices of young people involved in our Special Educational Needs School Programme.

Throughout the year the group participated in a series of workshops led by artists Lydia CS, Natalie Zervou-Kerruish and Evan Bond exploring identity, food and community. Experimenting with sculpture, performance and film the group sought ways to map their inner worlds and find connection through shared experiences.

Using the communal activity of eating and preparing food as a springboard for creativity the group have questioned how recipes, taste and tradition define our collective and personal identities.

About the SEN Programme

Camden Art Centre’s Special Educational Needs Schools Programme works in collaboration with young people, teachers and artists. The project addresses the lack of access for people with learning disabilities to creative experiences and careers in the visual arts. It aims to increase creative opportunities for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and to encourage confidence and independence through collaborative activities that champion all forms of communication and self-expression. It is our vision, along with the support of ActionSpace as a partner, to improve access and opportunities to the arts for artists and young people with learning disabilities, and to increase participation, education and training provision.

Our SEN Programme is generously supported by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund, Charlotte Bonham Carter Charitable Trust, Children in Need, David Solomons Charitable Trust, D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, Hedley Foundation, John Horniman’s Children’s Trust, John S Cohen Foundation, Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust and the Weinstock Fund. Our wider Learning Programme is generously supported by the A C & E Foundation, Atkin Foundation, Cecil and Hilda Lewis Trust, Freelands Foundation and the John Lyons Charity.

With special thanks to our partner ActionSpace.
