Join us for the soft launch of 'After Nora' by Penelope Curtis, with a reading by the author followed by a book signing and drinks.
After Nora bridges three generations of women, from the early 1920s to the early 2020s, and moves between England, France, Scotland, Jamaica and Portugal, touching on key scientific discoveries, artistic and historical landmarks, the Carnation Revolution and a global pandemic. In a moving debut that resurrects a past whose remnants still permeate the present, Penelope Curtis offers sensitive portraits of those whose lives she has had to imagine in order to understand: her paternal grandmother Nora, a painter, whom she never knew and whose story is the focus of Part 1; her father Adam and the eminent biologist Maria de Sousa, whose relationship with Adam is the focus of Part 2, which juxtaposes two timelines, one in the past, one in the present.
