Wilhelm Sasnal - Camden Art Centre

Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal’s intimately scaled paintings draw directly on pre-existing images, such as news photographs, album covers, films and other artwork.

This exhibition included a distinctive selection of new and recent work and his first solo show in a public gallery in the UK. Sasnal’s paintings are characterised by their often monochrome surfaces and a focus on extreme details and perspectives. Working in a variety of ways techniques and styles, both abstract and figurative, the artist experiments with the process of painting itself. He seeks to evoke rather than to illustrate, fragments of everyday visual experience.

These intriguing works remind us that our perception of the world is shaped by the images that we encounter on a daily basis. Offering a highly personal experience of visual reality, they hint at the emotions and memories that such images can provoke.
