2 day course: Figure Composition in Drawing & Painting - Camden Art Centre

Figure Composition in Drawing & Painting is a two-day intensive weekend course led by artist Michael Ajerman.

During this two-day course, students will explore multiple figure compositions in painting and drawing.

Students will be guided through using dry and wet drawing and painting materials to learn about composition, figure proportion and narrative. Life drawing sessions will support the exploration of colour and figure compositions.

Learning from Old Masters and Contemporary Artists that have used the human body and colour in unique ways, students will explore the structure and depiction of the figure in art history compositions.

 

This course will cover:

  • Drawing and painting compositions
  • Life drawing
  • Exploring colours through dry and wet mediums

 

All essential materials and resources are provided. Students are welcome to bring in any additional resources in print or book from.

This course is suitable for people with all levels of experience in artmaking. All materials costs are included. Size restrictions apply.

The Artist

Michael Ajerman’s oil paintings depict private moments of quiet domesticity and inner landscapes. The artist’s depiction of objects and bodies in flux employ a gestural style focused on color and brushwork. Frequently populated by subjects real and fictional, Ajerman’s paintings are both intimate and expressive, funny and sinister, luscious and unexpected. Born in New York, as a teenager Ajerman took part in the Cooper Union Outreach Program. Afterwards studying at the Corcoran School of Art, the New York Studio School, along with the Yale Summer School at Norfolk. In 2003 he completed his Masters Degree at the Slade School of Art. Receiving the British Institute Award from the Royal Academy the same year. Has consistently exhibited internationally. Select solo shows include: Grip, Aleph Contemporary, London UK. Adults’ courses are 18+ unless otherwise stated.

Evidence of concessionary status must be shown on the first day of the course.

For every season, each person can only book and attend one of the courses on a ‘pay what you can’ ticket.

Booking on a course at Camden Art Centre signifies your agreement to our terms and conditions as stated in our Learning Agreement.

Bookings are non-refundable, unless the course is cancelled by the Centre.
The course will only go ahead if the minimum participant requirement for the course to run is met. If the course does not go ahead, bookings will be refunded.
