Record - Camden Art Centre

RALLY Artist’s Commission 'Record' by Anna Howard

Rooted in London, Record spans multiple sites, connecting the city with the festival. Drawing on the cultural currency and semiotics of nightlife paraphernalia, it explores the information embedded in these materials and the broader notion of ephemerality, questioning conventional concepts of time, place and anticipation.

The project features temporary interventions. Record opens with a temporary intervention at a billboard site in the London Borough of Camden on Highgate Road, opposite The Southampton Arms. The billboard will be live from 18th-31st August 2025. Together, these works frame the moment, creating a feedback loop that shifts agency to the unfolding scene and places the audience at its centre.

On 23 August, the two sites connect through a walk guided by printed material and encounters with historic countercultural locations, which also serve as a record of the event.

The visual essay A Document of Record (2025) by Anna Howard is available to view below. It accompanies the project by extending its themes through a layered, observational lens, drawing on documents and ephemera to explore the spatial, material, and cultural references that have informed the project.
