Sung Tieu invites spalarnia, Katarina Gryvul, and Luis Polyanszky Worth
For the inaugural Garden Nights of Spring-Summer 2022, artist Sung Tieu invites members of the local community neighbouring Camden Art Centre to donate lamps to create a temporary installation of lights in the garden area to illuminate the performance area.
She is joined by artists and musicians who employ musical composition and verse to capture and augment intimate sounds and behaviours associated with our current times.
The evening comprises of live performances by spalarnia and Gryvul. spalarnia’s performance responds to the current political struggles in the region and the war in Ukraine – their new album USTA will be released in May 2022. Gryvul will perform tracks from her recent album TYSHA, Ukrainian for silence. It was written prior to the ongoing war, during lockdown and charts her personal journey during this period of alienation and need to connect with others.
They will be joined by Polyanszky Worth, whose recent work encompasses the arrangement of coded messages and unfamiliar sounds to create an acoustic environment that deals with suppression, retrieval and suspension. Tieu will premiere the sound work Song for VEB Stern-Radio Berlin (2021), which musically reflects upon her family’s history as former Vietnamese contract workers of the GDR.
At the close of the event, the audience is encouraged to take a lamp/light with them.
