Garden - Camden Art Centre

Camden Art Centre’s Garden offers a quiet retreat from the city in which visitors are free to relax and explore.

As well as an outside dining area adjoined to the Café, we have a large green space for visitors to enjoy all year round.  In 2013, Camden Art Centre commissioned artist  Aaron McPeake to produce Toll, an interactive artwork which hangs from a tree in the Garden.

Between March 2011 – 2013, Camden Art Centre ran a garden residency, Taking Root, to explore wildlife, habitats, growth and the ecology of ideas. Taking Root addressed a desire from local children and families to have a place in the garden for appreciation and discovery of wildlife in all its myriad of forms.

In 2015, to coincide with Ruth Ewan’s exhibition Back to the Fields, a temporary petting zoo took place in the Garden with a donkey, a pig, a goat and other farm animals. The exhibition brought to life the French Republican Calendar, in which months and weeks were restructured and seasons and days were renamed in collaboration with artists, poets and horticulturalists to reflect the annual cycle of nature and agriculture.
